Miles Davis - Original Album Serie
In 1985, Davis shocked the music world by moving from Columbia Records to Warner Bros. At Warner, Davis began work on the album that would later become Tutu, Davis’ pioneering work recorded using modern studio tools. At that time Tutu completely transcended musical genres, catapulting Davis to international acclaim once again and winning him two Grammy awards. The Original Album Series also features the albums that followed from Davis’ time at Warner, the soundtracks Music From Siesta and Dingo, studio album Amandla and Davis’ final studio album which was released posthumously, Doo-Pop, which won Davis yet another Grammy.
To this day, Davis is widely considered one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century. In a career that lasted over 50 years, Davis notched up an impressive 48 studio albums, 8 Grammy Awards and succeeded in crossing over into the rock and pop markets. Miles Davis was, with his musical groups, at the forefront of several major developments in jazz music, including bebop, cool jazz, hard bop, modal jazz, and jazz fusion. At Warner, Davis began working with internationally renowned producer and bass guitarist Marcus Miller, together the pair drew on contemporary influences producing some of Davis’ finest work. These albums clearly demonstrate why Davis is one of the most innovative, influential and respected figures in the history of music.
