Buddy Greco will be performing a run of UK shows including two nights at The Hideaway in London on November 24th and 25th
Since the release of his first single in 1946, legendary singer and pianist Buddy Greco has experienced a truly incredible career that has seen him forge one of the longest recording histories of any living artist, encompassing international touring, millions of record sales and countless appearances on radio, television and in films. He has performed at some of the most prestigious venues around the world with some of the most famous artists and bands of all time including Dizzy Gillespie, Cole Porter, The Beatles, Dusty Springfield, Marilyn Monroe and his close friends Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr.
Recorded over three days during one of Greco’s many stints at The Sands Hotel in Las Vegas, Live At The Sands is a milestone recording in what has been a long and illustrious career. Backed by an 18-piece orchestra, Greco is in impeccable voice as he swaggers through sumptuous arrangements of classic standards such as The Lady Is A Tramp, The Very Thought Of You, The Best Is Yet To Come and Satin Doll. The 16-song collection also showcases Greco’s command of the piano which combines the dexterity of Oscar Peterson with the soulful touch of Nat King Cole to form an engaging style all his own. His lightning improvisational skills are particularly evident on a superb crowd-rousing instrumental version of Tenderly which sees Greco take the song seamlessly from introspective ballad to hard-swinging anthem and back again.
Greco frequently performed at The Sands Hotel throughout the ‘50s and ‘60s and it was during this period that he became acquainted with some of the most famous personalities of the time. Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe, Grace Kelly, Frank Sinatra and Keely Smith are just some of the stars with whom Greco formed close relationships, and it was through his friendship with Sinatra that he became a member of the famed Rat Pack and spent many years performing with the group. Live at The Sands features liner notes by Greco’s close friend and collaborator Sammy Davis Jr who writes that “no matter what the mood, no matter what the tone or the picture that a song is supposed to create, Buddy achieves it.” It’s a statement that typifies the respect garnered by Greco from his peers throughout his career.
Live At The Sands is a first rate album that instantly transports the listener back to the Vegas of the 1960s and captures one of the greatest voices of his generation in full swing and at the top of his game. It’s the definitive Buddy Greco live experience.
