Tim Garland
(Jazz)
"one of my favourite saxophone players and composers." - Chick Corea"At one level, what they played was intimate chamber jazz, but from its first notes the group shrugged off the polite formality that that phrase usually implies, and reached out for a harder, more aggressive sound...a dazzling standard" - The Times
Garland sounds special playing any one of his three saxophones. He is blessed with a weighty tone that makes you switch on and want to listen, he is creative at speed and swings with momentum and grace. Gaining his reputation as a member of the Ronnie Scott’s band, he has toured with Chick Corea's Origin band for a year and a half and has since appeared regularly with Corea in quartets and quintets, including featuring on Corea's newly released CD and DVD box set. Other collaborations and projects Include: Work with the McFalls Chamber Ensemble, Britten Sinfonia, Northern Underground Orchestra, Lighthouse Project, and Acoustic Triangle.
Won Best British Jazz Artist from the Houses of Parliament Jazz Awards.
Finn Peters
(Jazz)
“Finn is the blazing definition of a seriously heavy player” - Straight No Chaser“Finn Peters possesses the rare ability to translate traditional grooves into a contemporary context. An exciting and important talent” - Jazzwise
Great for a young crowd and for the slightly more left of centre. Finn can create a great artistic and free atmosphere performing tunes from his two albums with his band and either playing the saxophone and flute himself. A much-in-demand session player and has continued to learn about music from around the globe. This explorative nature has lead him to work with such pioneers as Frederick Rzewski, Giovanni Hidalgo, DJ Spinna, Sam Rivers and Sa-Ra creative partners, to name a few. All the while he has been developing his own productions, writing and playing and forging a new musical alloy from this melting pot of traditions.
Finn has released a number of his own recordings. These are club-land favourites and are played in clubs across Europe by high profile tastemakers such as Gilles Peterson and Mr. Scruff. Other tracks were championed by DJs in the know like Rainer Truby and charted all over the world as well as getting extensive amounts of airplay. His most recent album before Su-ling entitled “Bansuri” pushed his name further into the limelight with collaboration with Bembe Segue. “The Birds” was nominated for track of the year 2005 in the BBC Radio1 Worldwide awards. Su-ling, his debut release for Babel records, had received a great deal of airplay on BBC Radio 1,2,3 and 1xtra. Essentially a jazz album it sits comfortably along-side hip-hop, world and classical music.
