'Thoughtful, contemplative, admirably understated and highly listenable.' EVENING STANDARD
Bassist, composer and bandleader Kyle Eastwood's first musical memories are of his father Clint Eastwood taking him to the Monterey Jazz Festival, and teaching him to play boogie-woogie piano. After learning electric bass in R&B covers bands Eastwood switched to double bass, making his solo debut for Sony in 1998, with Joni Mitchell guesting on Marvin Gaye's Trouble Man. Subsequent albums 'Paris Blue' and 'Now' established Eastwood as a distinctive writer and arranger of stylish, loungey jazz. He recently contributed music to his father's films Mystic River, Million Dollar Baby, Flags of Our Fathers and Letters From Iwo Jima. Tonight's performance features Kyle on both acoustic and electric basses, with his regular international sextet including rising star Andrew McCormack on piano.
'Very sharp work. There’s no denying Kyle has imagination and skill.' THE OBSERVER
'In the jazz tradition of Charles Mingus, but updated and as fresh as this morning's brew, Kyle Eastwood creates an accessible yet challenging listen, with creativity, deep grooves and excellent solos.' ALL ABOUT JAZZ
'Smooth jazz with a kick.' THE TIMES
'Eastwood fuses contemporary jazz and hard-bop with elements of downtempo groove to magical effect.' JAZZ TIMES
