It is with great sadness that we have to announce of the tragic death of South African reggae legend and star of the Gallo Record Company Lucky Dube, who was murdered on the night of 18th October at around 8:20pm in what local authorities currently believe was a failed hijacking attempt. Dube was driving with his two teenage children in Rosettenville, Johannesburg, when he was attacked by three men who later fled the scene. Mercifully, Dube's children were unhurt.

Lucky Philip Dube was born in 1964 and during his career established himself as South Africa's best selling and loved reggae artist. Having had great sucess performing traditional Zulu mbaqanga music, Dube started singing reggae in the early Eighties and quickly rose to prominence with his 1985 release Think About The Children. He continued recording and perfroming throughout his life gaining great critical acclaim, both at home and internationally, entertaining millions of fans through his sell-out live concerts and his 22 studio albums. As a recording artist, musical icon, family man and hugely respected and honoured individual, he will be greatly missed.

Dube is survived by his wife Zanele and his seven children. Our deepest sympathies go out to them; if you would like to leave a message of condolence with Lucky's family, please visit his website www.luckydubemusic.com or email Lucky@gallo.co.za
