Other Projects

Ingrid Laubrock Quintet

This quintet is led by BBC Jazz Award nominee Ingrid Laubrock and includes Mercury-prize nominee Sebastian Rochford on drums, as well as improvising cellist Ben Davis, pianist Barry Green and double bassist Larry Bartley.

The stellar line-up, described as ‘heavenly’ by Chris May of ‘All About Jazz’, has made a deep impression at last years’ Cheltenham Jazz Festival where they played to a sold out house on two consecutive days. Through years of playing together, this quintet has achieved an almost mystical degree of interaction and interplay; and while much emphasis is on improvisation, the musicians never loose track of Ingrid Laubrock’s compositions.

Ingrid Laubrock and Liam Noble

Exploring the common ground between spontaneous improvisations and song forms, Ingrid Laubrock and Liam Noble bring both lyrical warmth to the former and a fluid logic to the music of Monk, Mingus, Konitz and others.
Two experienced and creative musicians with attitude, lyricism and expression, ready to walk on a tightrope if necessary…

Ingrid has performed with Kenny Wheeler, Norma Winstone, David Liebman, Billy Cobham, Jean Toussaint, Stan Sulzman, Django Bates’ Human Chain, Evan Parker, Jazz Jamaica Allstars, US cult producer David Axelrod, soul singers Dina Carroll and Gabrielle, Siouxie and The Banshees, Sebastian Rochford’s Polar Bear, Tom Arthurs’ Centripede, Antonio Forcione, Gary Husband, Julian Siegel, Byron Wallen, Hans Koller Big Band and many more. As part of the F-ire Collective, she won the BBC Jazz Award for Innovation in 2004, She was also nominated for the BBC Jazz Award for ‘Rising Star’ in 2005 and won a Fellowship in Jazz Composition by the Arts Foundation in 2006.

After studying music at Oxford University and the postgraduate course at the Guildhall, Liam became the regular pianist with Stan Sulzmann . He went on to work with Anita Wardell, Harry Beckett, Tim Whitehead and John Stevens as well as recording and touring with cult minimalist composer Moondog. He also performed with John Taylor, Kenny Wheeler and Lol Coxhill. In 1997, he joined the Bobby Wellins Quartet and he’s featured on the CD, ‘The Best is Yet to Come’ (Jazzizit Records).
