5 ways Air has enhanced my life...
1.
Kaki King at the Jazz Café - First of all I was ashamed that I didn’t already know about Kaki King, being a guitarist myself I should have known about the ‘Guitar God’, and besides I like to think I’m on the ball - or at least know of what’s hot and what’s not - when it comes to music. So after being given some work on Kaki and doing extensive research on her I knew the Jazz Café in Camden on Thursday 2nd April was a show I absolutely had to attend, a neat justification for why I kept hassling Sheela for a spare ticket! This being the last show of a mammoth tour tickets were sold like hot cakes in Guernsey. I am therefore eternally grateful for the opportunity to witness Kaki and her incredible band that night; experiencing some top quality Goosebumps music for an entire set (when I say ‘Goosebumps music’, I don’t mean she played the soundtrack to ‘Goosebumps’, the series by R.L. Stein, I mean her music gave me permanent Goosebumps). I must also say a big thanks to Jonny South for letting me be him that night, I enjoyed being a drum god and general ladies man even if it was only for an evening.
With the aforementioned drum god above this ties in nicely; on that special evening I had the chance to watch one hell of drummer in Matt Hankle. At times it seemed Kaki and Matt were in competition, trying to outdo one another in some sort of muse off, which I might add was highly entertaining for the audience and which led to more of those Goosebumps I spoke of. I guess when you play with a musician of Kaki’s calibre you have to up your game, make sure you’re on it and play like you’ve never played before. Dave Grohl was right when he said she was ‘f**king good’, I was expecting something pretty special but she truly surpassed all expectations and I only wish I could live in the moment for a little longer… 5 Stars!

Guest List at Shows - I now expect to meet artists once I’ve seen them play, a luxury I have acquired through working at Air. I used to be the person dodging security, jumping fences, finding backstage passes and sticking them to my wrist with chewing gum (I have actually done this), crowd surfing my way to the front and by and large being a hustler. Now I simply show up, shake a few hands and say ‘good set’ without getting my shoes dirty.
3.
An insight into the world of pr and the music industry, making the myth more of a reality.
4.
Spotify - thanks to the Air team I was ahead of the game (ahead of the general public anyway), I introduced Roberta and the wonders of Spotify to my buddies and this made me a highly respected man in the know… The themes within the Office are always fun, a communal spot for music tastes and a way of listening to old songs I forgot about.
5.
Last and not least the Airheads; the throwing of balls, the tea and biscuits (largely consumed by me), the ridiculous hypothetical conversations of Gary and Jonny and the general office banter, always a pleasure!
