Jimmy Eat World @ Brixton Academy

A great performance from the mature emo-rockers from Arizona on this sold out occasion. Arriving at ten to nine after finding a great viewing point with my flat mate, we had a brief moment to soak up the atmosphere, before the band took to the stage dead on 9pm. Which for Brixton is about twenty minutes earlier than usual but then again for most of the crowd down the front it is half term and they have to get the train home at 11pm.

The band opened with "Big Casino", an energetic song off the new album "Chase This Light", it was a good opener but soon they were playing anthems off their last studio album "Futures" with songs such as "Work"" and "23" much to the delight of the crowd.
A big, solid sound throughout the gig and they owned the stage. At 10pm they played their "last song" before coming out to do a four song encore including teen movie cult hit "Hear You Me" - Out come to cameras and mobile phones - mainly girls calling their mate who couldn't make the show or get tickets saying "they're playing it, they're playing it, it's Hear You Me..listen!" - typical!
They didn't play "Polaris" which was a wounder.

Nearly bought the cd of the live show but only had a tenner...
Maybe next time.

4 stars from me.
Good gig.
