What an amazing weekend. It isn’t really that often I get the pleasure of sitting on grass at festivals; there really was plenty of it at Latitude festival this year, Plenty to walk on too!! Flying flags and hog roasts fit for medieval kings, bbq, falafel, smoothies, and Pimms served in the woods, purple sheep and…purple sheep?! You’ll have to see what I mean, you really have to be there!! It’s totally possible to get caught up in the country side there too; it’s situated on the gorgeous sides of rolling English hills, with pond dipping allowed in the river in the cusp of the valley.
Stages on the river, stages lost in the woods, poetry and spoken word, drama, comedy and theatre for the melodramatic would satisfy even the most left of centred new age travellers. From unknown open mikers to headliners, children to adults, and veggies to meat lovers there is something for everyone.
Latitude has three main music platforms - BBC introducing stage, Uncut Magazine Marquis, and the ‘Oblisk’ main stage – of which I experienced on Saturday (my only day there!). With the likes of Captain, The Coral (acoustic set) in the Uncut Marquee, I am Kloot (awesome!), Elbow and Sigur Ros headlining on the main stage; It was excellent on paper and mind blowing on stage. Plus I got to chill out with some of the stars backstage! I shared a few cool cans of lager with Bramwell (Cheers Johnny!), vocal man from I Am Kloot whilst he gave me the low down, chats with uber quality characters and band members Pete and Andy, oh and check the photo with me and Guy from Elbow. I thought appropriate to smile nicely – the only decent shot of me.
I have to say, ‘Well done Festival Republic!’ I remarkably well organised, entertaining, dynamic, and …clean festival’.
