Air Team at Jazzahead 2008 in Bremen
Air has just got back from an extremely successful trip to the Jazzahead conference in Bremen, Germany! Creating and sustaining links to worldwide festivals, venue promoters and fellow agents. We made more relations in the far-east including new links to another Indonesian and Malaysian festival network. We met up with various established contacts and members of the Scandinavian and European Jazz Networks, journalists, managers, promoters and agents looking to export not only Air artists but present an open window to UK Jazz. We also presented invitations to the best of Europe for showcases in Britain.
The conference itself took place at the Bremen exhibition centre, a massive hall of musos from federations, institutes, to artists, instruments and even the sale of recorded music. With press conferences, lectures and German showcases running through the day this open market presented the perfect opportunity to learn about other market networks and trends. With more than a fair bit of meeting and greeting new faces with every moment we recognised old ones too. The evenings gave us the opportunity to taste the culture from sausages to the gigs put on at the Schlachthof – translating as ‘The Slaughter House’ – Highlights at this venue included the Gwilym Simcock Trio, Susanne Alt Quartet. With big gigs on in the main halls there was also a strong connection with today’s youth orchestras. Workshops and live performances from tomorrows jazzers kept the conference light hearted.
Europe as a whole has vibrant stages with many different popular sounds and tastes. Here’s to Jazzahead and the German Jazz Meeting.
