"Expect the queues to tail back to Soho Square"
Ronnie Scott's - May 30th - 31st: McCoy Tyner Trio with special guest Joe Lovano. The sheer drive and energy of a McCoy Tyner performance has to be seen and heard to be believed. Since his crucial contribution to the timeless music of the great John Coltrane Quartet of the 1960s, and his own spectacular band of the ‘70s, Tyner has been a pivotal figure in the evolution of contemporary jazz, a hugely influential pianist whose rhythmic impetus and creative spirit is simply awesome. Aside from his work with Coltrane, he has collaborated with some of the foremost names in jazz music, including John Scofield, Elvin Jones, Paul Motion, Hank Jones and Billy Cobham. His current trio, with Gerald Cannon on bass and Eric Kamau Gravatt on drums, is joined by one of the most complete saxophonists of his time, and a stalwart of today's Blue Note artist roster - Joe Lovano combines the sound and swing of the great tenor players of the past with the inventive vision of a true musical explorer. A jazz collaboration born in heaven, these dates are not to be missed. As Jazzwise puts it "Expect the queues to tail back to Soho Square".
