Sir John Dankworth, CBE - 1927 - 2010
We were saddened to hear of the death of Sir John Dankworth on Saturday 6th February - as well as being a national treasure for the arts in general as well as just for jazz, he reminded us of the enduring power of the artform by playing well into his '80s and despite a prolonged period of illness, even performing from a wheelchair at the London Jazz Festival in November. His achievements and contributions to the UK scene are too numerous to list here, and he will be sorely missed by those who knew him personally and by the many more who knew him through his great music - our thoughts go out to his family.
