Ronnie Scott’s. Love the club, the man and the music?

Ever since his first trip to the jazz clubs of New York in the late 40s, Ronnie Scott had dreamed of opening his own London venue. In 1959 this dream came true when he, along with fellow saxophonist Pete King, opened Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in Soho. With residencies from the likes of Stan Getz, Sonny Rollins and Zoot Sims, it quickly built a reputation as the place to hear the jazz greats from around the world. Now, approaching its 50 year anniversary, the club’s reputation is as strong as ever. Recent headline acts have included Wynton Marsalis, Chick Corea, Kenny Garrett and Billy Cobham with support from the ever-present Ronnie Scott’s All Stars, featuring some of the biggest names on the British Jazz Scene.

The Ronnie Scott’s bands have become a permanent fixture at the club working with some of the visiting International stars as well as presenting many nights of entertainment themselves. Air Tours are now offering venues, festivals and private event organisers the chance to hire these musicians and enjoy this legendary club experience for themselves. From simply booking the Ronnie Scott’s bands to perform, to having the entire club atmosphere recreated, including the staff, food and the voice of Ronnie Scott himself (original recordings of the great man can be used to introduce and announce the music), the event can be specifically and individually tailored for your needs.

Whether you have a fixed idea of your musical requirements or simply want some fantastic music, Ronnie Scott’s can develop a set for your evening. Made up from some of the best British musicians around, The Ronnie Scott’s bands perform in various different combinations, from the solo pianist or jazz trio often seen backing the guest artists, to the full Big Band which has entertained audiences worldwide. The long standing residency of these musicians at Ronnie Scott’s has helped them gain the reputation as one of the tightest units around, which guests at the club will testify to!

Described by Jazzwise as “preposterously talented”, All Star pianist James Pearson is currently working on a solo piano tribute to Art Tatum who would have been 100 years old in 2009. To commemorate 50 years since the death of Billie Holiday and what would have been the 100th Birthday of Lester Young, The Ronnie Scott’s All Stars will be presenting a joint project with music from these two outstanding artists. The same year also marks 50 years since the release of what is widely considered the greatest jazz album of all time; Miles Davis’ ground breaking Kind Of Blue. The Ronnie Scott’s All Stars are taking the celebration project worldwide in honour of this jazz masterpiece, as well as developing a number of special programmes to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the club. The Big Band are also celebrating 100 years of Benny Goodman and have various other projects which would fit any entertainment slot.

With this huge range of variety and talent on offer, Ronnie Scott’s can offer something for every venue, festival and occasion.
